Lilydale Montrose United (LMU) was formed in 2020 following the merger of Montrose Soccer Club and Mount Lilydale Old Collegians Soccer Club (OCSC).
Today LMU fields teams across Football Victoria State League, Bayside FA, junior community football and Over-35s/Over-45s, with nearly 400 members.
Montrose SC’s roots date back to 1974, beginning as a single team playing friendlies against local clubs such as:
Bowater Scott
Fibremakers United (now Croydon Ranges FC)
Matches in the early years were played on spare land behind the Fibremakers factory on Canterbury Road.
In 1975, Tessa Furniture became the first club sponsor, and the team competed under the name Tessa Town.
Montrose enjoyed strong results in the late 2000s and early 2010s:
2009 – Legends team won the Bayside “Legendary Cup”
2010 – Legends team won the Bayside League title
2011 – Senior team won Bayside Division 1 and earned promotion to the Premier League
These achievements established Montrose as a competitive and respected Bayside FA club.
Mount Lilydale OCSC, representing the Mount Lilydale Mercy College community, quickly built a strong football identity.
The club twice finished runner-up in the Bayside FA Premier League Division.
In 2010, Mt Lilydale won its first Victorian Amateur League title.
In 2015, Mt Lilydale entered the Football Victoria State League for the first time, finishing just 4 points shy of promotion.
Another strong campaign followed in 2018, finishing 3rd, again narrowly missing promotion by 3 points.
In 2020, Montrose SC and Mt Lilydale OCSC officially merged to form:
The merger combined two strong football communities, consolidating:
junior and senior pathways
